How to root HTC Desire

This is a brief tutorial for all of you who want to hear your root-Desire with Unrevoked3 and Windows. The method that we describe in the rest of the text is by far the easiest to root-ing of HTC Desire models.


Before you begin this process be sure you understand all the consequences that root-ing the phone in turn results in (loss guarantees, etc.). Also, read this tutorial in full and obtain all necessary applications and drivers before you in the process of root-ing.

Required software:

a) Android USB driver that download from the following link. After downloading extract the contents of the archive somewhere on your computer.

b) Unrevoked3 can be downloaded from the following link.

Root procedures:

1. Uninstall HTC Sync if you have ever installed on the computer you are working on root-ing.

2. Turn off the phone, and then turn it on while holding the power button and mute button.


3. After this your phone should show HBOOT menu (similar to Figure 3).



4. Now connect the phone USB cable to your computer. Your computer will probably install some drivers for your Android phone automatically.

5. On your computer go to Device Manager and find the "Android Phone" or ADB (depends on which Windows drivers installed in the previous step).

6. Try to update the driver by right click context menu to open it and select Update Driver Software. Choose whether you want to install the driver from the site that you created in step a) of this tutorial. After that the steps should you installed bootloader Android Interface.
If Windows does not want to install this driver (you'll get a message like: Windows has determined ...) you'll need to delete the currently installed driver, unplug the phone, disable computer access, and then connect your phone to your computer and repeat the process described in this step.

7. On the phone, where he still HBOOT menu, choose Reboot (through the menu to navigate Volume up or Volume down buttons, and select Power On button work).

8. When the Android build must include a USB debugging mode (Settings-> Applications-> Development).

9. Start Unrevoked the location you chose in step b)

10. Unrevoked3 should detect your phone and you open the screen with the classic "Are you sure ..." work. Here click on "OK" and the root-ing begins. It is very important that after this you do not touch the phone and let Unrevoked to do its job. Expect you two automatic reboot and after that the message that everything went successfully:)

Your phone is after this rooted. This can be checked by the application program to search for Superuser permissions (popularly known as the Ninja:)
After this you can install all the applications you want. You can also put the custom ROM.
